Happy news

This post is for my "not on facebook" readers.  Sorry to those of you on facebook for the cut and paste of my facebook posts this week.  I don't really have any extra info to add this time. 

St. Patrick's Day was lazy and uneventful for us. I'll blame daylight savings time on Sunday for our tiredness. I sort of came up with an art lesson plan for the summer, but I'm still trying to work out the details.  Happy first day of spring coming up this week! :)

So many things are "on my mind" right now, but first I stole some pictures from my future sister-in-law. I am so excited for them (Michael and Lili) to be getting married soon....

& I am so excited they finally have the ring! She designed it herself and it took a long time for the jewelers to get it right, but it's gorgeous!

And I am going to embarrass my brother, but I don't care because I am his big sister- he made her a ring out of a rusty nail in the meantime of waiting for the ring- I think that is so romantic and sweet!

Other news of the week- I had a photo shoot for a magazine! It's a local magazine our city does, so nothing too big, and it's going to be a very short article (like a paragraph or two) about the art lessons I sometimes teach, and may or may not actually have any of the photos in it, but still... :) They found out about me because my neighbor won a photo contest the magazine does with a photo of one of our art shows and he told them they should contact me. Thank you to my neighbor- he and his family are really nice. The photographer was great and she even convinced Henry to participate and paint a picture and made friends with him so he didn't mind allowing himself to be photographed. He spent the few days before telling me he could not be in a magazine because he is a ninja and ninjas do not show up in magazines. That would just ruin the whole being a ninja thing.

 

Science Rules

Today was the 9th grade boat races!  It was so much fun to watch. :)  The ninth grade science classes have to divide up into teams and build a boat out of cardboard that will hold them as they row across the pool around a buoy back to a buoy on the other side of the pool, back to around a third buoy at the end of the pool, and then back again without sinking.  The teams pick themes and some even dress up for it.  There's an announcer that announced each team and someone plays music while the team rows their boat.  Ana's team had a Harry Potter Hogwarts theme so they played Harry Potter music for them. Ana's boat made it!  Hooray!  It probably helped that Ana and another teammate don't even weigh 100 lbs.  ;-)

Sometimes it nice when someone you know from church works at your kid's school.  Henry's primary teacher is an assistant to the girl in the wheelchair.  She emailed us to tell us and told Henry's primary class how awesome Ana is.  Everyone picks their team and Ana picked the girl in the wheelchair and made her a t-shirt.  Ana didn't say anything to us because to her it's just what anyone would do, and she is kind of embarrassed a little that Henry's primary teacher used Ana as an example of being Christ like in his primary class.  It meant a lot to this girl to be asked into a group instead of being assigned to a group or just not "needing" to participate in this assignment because she wouldn't be able to be in the boat.  I'm glad someone told me- it's always nice to hear the good stuff.  Henry is pretty proud of Ana and brings it up once in awhile making Ana blush a little and say, "uh, I don't know why that's...even...a thing".  I'm proud of her too.  She may not be getting an A in English, but she's got the important stuff down.

Snow Day!

Finally last week we had some snow.  Enough to build a giant snowman only to come to his demise today in the rain and yesterdays' 60 degree weather.  Oh, it was fun while it lasted. 

We got to make the bowling lane that we've wanted to make for some time, but never could because we didn't have any snow; and thanks to the world of pinterest we discovered we could add glow sticks to water bottles for glow in the dark backyard bowling.  It kind of worked and it was a good 10-20 minutes of fun one night.
